Age Calculator — Exact Age in Years, Months, Days
Knowing your exact age is more than just a number — it is essential for government job applications, school admissions, insurance policies, legal documents, and even personal milestones. Our Age Calculator gives you a precise breakdown of your age in years, months, days, hours, and minutes. It also tells you when your next birthday is and what day of the week you were born on.
Unlike simple calculators that divide total days by 365, this tool uses proper calendar arithmetic. It accounts for the varying number of days in each month (28, 29, 30, or 31) and leap years. This ensures the result is accurate to the exact day, which is critical when applying for government exams or filling official forms where even a one-day difference can affect eligibility.
How Age is Calculated
Age calculation may seem straightforward, but it involves careful calendar math. Here is how it works:
- Years: First, the calculator checks if the birth month/day has passed in the target year. If the birth date (month and day) is on or before the target date, the completed years equal target year minus birth year. Otherwise, it subtracts one additional year.
- Months: After determining completed years, the calculator counts the remaining months from the birth month to the target month. If the birth day is after the target day, it borrows one month (subtracting the days of the previous month).
- Days: Finally, the remaining days are calculated. This accounts for the actual number of days in the relevant month, so results are always precise.
For example, if your date of birth is 15-06-1990 and today is 21-07-2026, the calculator determines: 36 completed years, 1 completed month, and 6 remaining days. It does not approximate by dividing total days by 365.25 — it uses exact calendar boundaries.
Age for Government Jobs in India
Indian government exams such as SSC (Staff Selection Commission), UPSC (Union Public Service Commission), IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection), and state-level PSC exams have strict age limits. These limits are calculated as on a specific cutoff date mentioned in the official notification.
Common age requirements for popular exams:
| Exam | Age Range | Cutoff Date |
|---|---|---|
| SSC CGL | 18–32 years (varies by post) | 01-08 of exam year |
| UPSC CSE | 21–32 years (General) | 01-08 of exam year |
| IBPS PO | 20–30 years | As per notification |
| SSC CHSL | 18–27 years | 01-01 of exam year |
| Railway NTPC | 18–33 years | 01-07 of exam year |
To check your eligibility, set the "Calculate Age As Of" date to the cutoff date mentioned in the exam notification. The calculator will show your exact age as of that date, helping you determine if you fall within the required range. Note that most exams offer age relaxation for reserved categories (OBC: 3 years, SC/ST: 5 years, PwD: 10 years).
Age Difference Calculator
The Age Difference mode lets you compare two dates to find the exact gap between them. This has many practical uses:
- Relationship compatibility: Find the exact age gap between two people.
- Twin or sibling comparison: Know the precise time difference between births.
- Project timelines: Calculate the duration between two events or milestones.
- Historical dates: Find how many years, months, and days between any two dates.
Simply switch to "Age Difference" mode, enter both dates, and the tool returns the difference in years, months, days, as well as total months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes.
